Something about Lincolnshire
Centred on Scunthorpe, the area is dominated by heavy industry, with one of Britains's two remaining working integrated iron and steelworks at Scunthorpe, oil and petrochemical works on the banks of the Humber and the Trent, and power stations.
Famous for
Towering above Grimsby docks is the Grimsby Dock Tower. This 94m high tower was built in 1852 to provide hydraulic power for the lock at the entrance of the harbour - based on Sienna's town hall, it provides an overblown touch of Italy on the North Sea.
St Peter's Church at Barton-upon-Humber has one of the finest Anglo-Saxon towers in Britain, dating from the 10th century. Nearby are the ruins of Thornton Abbey, its power implied by its monumental fortified gatehouse, built in the late 14th century.
